Hornbeam Lodge Escape lies within the Blackdown National Landscape, a vast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which is completely unspoilt by mass tourism.

A patchwork of fields, lanes and hills laced by rivers and streams, this area is unsurprisingly popular with walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. Rich in wildlife and heritage, the area is very quintessentially 'English', famed for its picture-perfect charm and diverse habitats. So lace up your boots, put a leash on your dog and get out exploring this gorgeous area, you won't regret it.

Step back in time

Uncover treasures beneath the tides

Half an hour from Hornbeam lies the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of hidden wonder. This fascinating stretch of ancient coastline lures fossil hunters in their droves every year, each of them hoping to find a piece from 185 million years of our Earth’s history.

Stretching along the shores of Dorset and East Devon, these fossil rich cliffs are packed with ancient life including ammonites, belemnites, and even marine reptile remains. The town of Lyme Regis is popular with beginners and experienced collectors alike, and those who carefully search among loose rocks and fallen shale are often rewarded.

Beachside bliss

Seaside adventures on the Devon coast

The South Devon coastline is a treasure trove of natural beauty, including the East Devon National Landscape, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. So where better for a beach day?!

Head to striking Ladram Bay where red sandstone stacks rise dramatically from the calm, sheltered bay, creating a memorable setting.

For peaceful walks and traditional family seaside days out, try Seaton with its a long pebble beach and promenade. Nearby Branscombe boasts one of the longest village greens in England, which runs beside its quiet, unspoilt shore. Whilst hidden coves such as Seacombe are delightfully secluded, perfect for hunkering down with a picnic.
